Financial Advisor Newsletter Services: Costs & Approval

Seven options for shared content, custom writing or newsletter production. Compare who writes, who sends, who approves, and first-year costs.

Choose the work you want to hand over

A financial advisor newsletter service can supply reusable articles, assemble a branded email, write a custom edition, or run the sending platform. Those are different purchases. A library subscription still leaves editorial choices to someone; a writing service may leave sending and records with your firm.

  • Shared advisor content and campaigns: compare FMG, Snappy Kraken and AdvisorStream. Ask how much customization the quoted tier includes.
  • Custom research and writing: compare our scope with the custom writing included in a vendor’s quote.
  • Relationship emails: look at ReminderMedia’s content categories and cadence.
  • Production owned by your team: Letterhead can organize newsletters; AI tools can assist drafting. You still need an editorial owner and your firm’s review process.

For a format check before a demo, see our financial advisor newsletter examples guide. The table also links public vendor examples where found; screenshots and campaign illustrations are not proof of your firm’s approved setup.

Cost sources: FMG pricing, Snappy Kraken pricing, ReminderMedia digital pricing and our pricing. AdvisorStream’s reviewed product page does not publish a price; Letterhead’s Studio and Suite pages request quotes. AI plan prices are not a complete newsletter budget.

Our first-year recurring figures assume the single edition is credited: continue within 10 calendar days after delivery and the $500 counts toward month one, as its first edition. Otherwise, add the separately purchased edition. Both recurring plans are month to month.

What to confirm with each provider

FMG (including Twenty Over Ten)

Advisor marketing platform with a shared content library, email builder and firm review workflow. Twenty Over Ten is part of FMG.

Confirm the newsletter automation you need, its add-on cost, contact allowance and review configuration before buying Essential.

Twenty Over Ten’s official site says its features are part of FMG following the November 2020 acquisition. We include that legacy relationship under FMG rather than count a separate current alternative.

Snappy Kraken

Advisor campaign software with newsletters, library content, an AI email builder and review configuration; Freedom360 adds implementation services.

Ask which campaigns are included and who personalizes and launches them. A done-for-you marketing plan does not by itself establish bespoke newsletter writing.

NewsletterAsAService (publisher)

Custom newsletter research, writing and production. Firm approval and recordkeeping remain with the client; recurring plans include approved sending.

Check whether your firm permits outside copy and can complete its review within your intended publishing cadence. Additional audiences, reviewers or compliance work need a separate quote.

The single edition is delivered within seven business days after complete intake. Research begins after verified payment and complete intake. We do not provide legal/compliance approval, regulatory archiving, FINRA filings or performance guarantees. The advisor service page describes the editorial work.

AdvisorStream (Broadridge)

Advisor marketing platform combining licensed publisher content, original financial education and AI-assisted newsletter personalization.

Request a sample with your branding, the applicable content licence, approval route and records export. Do not assume a home-office contract removes edition-level review.

ReminderMedia Digital Marketing

Branded relationship marketing with digital magazines, local-events emails and branded-post newsletters; firm review requirements still apply.

Check content categories and whether your reviewers can see and stop an automated send. Lifestyle or local-events content does not establish a regulatory exemption.

Letterhead

Newsletter production software with approval flows. Studio works with an existing ESP; Suite includes audience management and sending.

Consider it when your team already owns writing and needs production software. Test review permissions and records export against your firm’s requirements.

AI writing tools (ChatGPT / Jasper)

Drafting and editing tools rather than a complete advisor newsletter service; the firm must arrange verification, approval, production and sending.

Budget for an editor, fact checking, design, an ESP and the firm’s review process. Verify every factual and performance claim before use.

Approval and records: SEC advisers and broker-dealers

The SEC Marketing Rule guide applies to advisers registered or required to register with the SEC. Advertisement status involves offering securities advisory services to prospects or new services to current clients; recipient count alone is insufficient. The one-to-one exclusion has limits, especially for hypothetical performance. State-registered advisers should check applicable state rules.

For advertisements, substantiate material claims and assess risks, performance presentations, testimonials and endorsements under the rule’s conditions. Neither a human writer nor an AI tool guarantees compliance. Your firm should decide the review required for the finished communication.

For broker-dealer communications, FINRA Rule 2210 defines retail communications as reaching more than 25 retail investors within any 30 calendar-day period; correspondence reaches 25 or fewer. Retail communications generally require qualified principal approval before use or filing, with specified exceptions. Correspondence remains supervised. Vendor review alone does not determine whether an exception applies; follow your firm’s procedures.

Adviser Rule 204-2 requires relevant advertising and communication records. Under (a)(11) and (e)(3), retain covered records at least five years from the end of the fiscal year of last dissemination, with the first two years in an appropriate office. The rule separately captures certain newsletters sent to ten or more people even when they are not advertisements.

Broker-dealer retention depends on the record category and applicable Exchange Act rules. FINRA Rule 4511 supplies six years where no other period is specified. FINRA’s books-and-records guidance describes audit-trail and WORM alternatives for electronic broker-dealer records; WORM is not a universal RIA requirement. Have your firm specify the archive, export format and retention period.

Before signing, ask for an edition in your proposed branding, the review route after edits, what happens when approval is late, and a record export you can inspect. A vendor’s pre-review or an automated schedule must fit your firm’s applicable approval and supervision process.

Common questions

Costs and responsibilities

How much does a financial advisor newsletter service cost?

Reviewed public plans start at $99/month + $199 setup for FMG Marketing Essential and $199/month + $199 setup on an annual term for Snappy Kraken Foundations. Scope differs: FMG Financial Focus is an Essential add-on. Our custom service starts with one $500 edition, then $750/month for two editions or $1,500/month weekly. AdvisorStream and Letterhead require quotes in the reviewed sources.

Does pre-reviewed vendor content replace our firm’s approval?

Vendor review is an input to your firm’s process. Your firm determines the applicable approval, supervision and any exceptions. FMG Financial Focus automation specifically requires monthly home-office review of the complete email, with content supplied 4–6 weeks before its scheduled send. FMG also makes the email available for manual library sends; those must follow your firm’s applicable approval and supervision procedures.

Can our firm use AI to draft a newsletter?

AI can assist drafting, but the finished communication still needs factual verification and the review required by your firm. A human author is not a compliance guarantee either. Assign someone to check sources, claims, disclosures and the final version before sending.

Does NewsletterAsAService provide compliance approval or regulatory archiving?

No. We research, write and produce the newsletter; your firm provides legal/compliance approval and maintains its required records. The single edition excludes ESP setup, list import, scheduling and sending. Recurring plans cover one ESP and one list and send only after explicit approval.

Is the single edition an extra charge before a recurring plan?

Start either recurring plan within 10 calendar days after delivery and the full $500 becomes credit toward month one. The single edition counts as that billing period’s first edition. Without that credit, add the separate single-edition payment to your recurring-plan budget.

One edition

Review custom work before continuing.

One researched, written and designed newsletter for $500. Your firm reviews and sends it; legal/compliance approval and archiving remain with you.
